On February 12th, the Asociación Sector Papelería held its Ordinary General Assembly at the Club Financiero Génova in Madrid, gathering more than 100 representatives from leading companies in the sector. The event was a pivotal moment for defining brand positioning strategies, strengthening the industry, and presenting initiatives aimed at improving access to essential educational materials. Additionally, the presence of mass media outlets helped amplify the event’s impact, ensuring broader visibility and fostering discussions on the industry’s future.
An Impactful Event: Reach and Volume
With the participation of over 28 leading companies, the General Assembly established itself as a must-attend event for the sector. Renowned brands such as STABILO, FOLDER PAPELERÍAS, HAMELIN BRANDS, ABACUS, NAVIGATOR, MAPED, HENKEL, and FINOCAM actively participated, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the stationery market in Spain.
The event not only served as a gathering space for key players in the sector but also encouraged the generation of synergies and collaborations to address the industry’s challenges. Throughout the day, topics such as sustainability in school supply production and the impact of digitalization on consumption habits were discussed. The participating companies agreed on the need to innovate and adapt to the new market demands, ensuring the quality and accessibility of essential educational products.
Achievements and Challenges: The Fight for VAT Reduction
One of the key points of the Assembly was the strategy to achieve a reduction in VAT on essential stationery products, which are currently taxed at 21%. The Association will intensify its efforts with the Government of Spain, seeking support from various political parties for the implementation of this fiscal measure.
Despite the consensus within the sector, the challenge remains to convince the authorities that these products are essential for education and should benefit from a reduced VAT, just like textbooks.
Internationalization and Digitalization: Other Strategic Pillars
In addition to the fiscal fight, the Association highlighted the importance of digitalization and its impact on education. In support of the recent UNESCO report, the Association emphasized the need for a hybrid model combining digital tools with physical materials. The sector’s European expansion was also discussed through collaboration with counterpart organizations in France (UFIPA), Italy (UFC), Germany (SPB), and Portugal.
